    Bush, Cabinet gloss over immigration
    Big News Network (UPI)
    Wednesday 6th September, 2006

Reconvening his Cabinet Wednesday, U.S. President George Bush made no mention of immigration reform, Washington's hot topic just two months ago.

Bush spoke briefly with reporters after the Cabinet meeting in Washington, and brought the issue of terror to the forefront.

One of the most important tasks is for Congress to recognize that we need the tools necessary to win this war on terror, and we'll continue to discuss with Congress ways to make sure that this nation is capable of defending herself, he said.

The president said the economy, energy, healthcare and a variety of other matters were discussed, but did not elaborate.

Bush acknowledged it being in political season, referring to the Nov. 7 midterm congressional and gubernatorial elections, and said he made sure the Cabinet understands that we'll continue to address the concerns of the American people.
